about

Raw and vulnerable, the album’s penultimate track revisits moments of intimacy from the past that recur in cherished yet haunted remembrance. The process of letting go occurs slowly and achingly as memories of vows of commitment and passionate embraces resurface even after many months have passed. Nairobi’s heart-wrenching words carry the slow-building music into peak intensity as the somber saxophone dances within and around the lyrics.

lyrics

I said in your ear amidst sweat and sighs,
"Nobody makes me feel the way you do."
Maybe I didn't say it loud enough to demonstrate what you're worth
And now I chew on my confession
Alone in a place we once came together
And carelessly vowed a commitment to each other
Here where I lie is where you said,
"Maybe someday,"
And I swallowed your promising words too eagerly
Too easily
And was drunk
On the empty bottle of good intentions

I think about you more than I like to admit
It’s hard to say if I’d rather remember or forget

Your sweet face, your warm hands
Your deep sighs late in the night
Your embrace, your sweet taste
And the way your eyes gaze back at mine

I think about the way we would make time disappear
And I imagine how it would be if you were still here

We came together, made our vows
That it would work to be untethered
We slipped up, we were drunk
On the empty bottle of good intentions

I think about you
Much more than I'd like to
And it's really hurting my soul
Because I picture myself beside you
And no we didn't have the frame
Didn't share the same name
It's no longer ideal
But I never had to question your intentions
I know that they were real
The gentle kisses you gave me
Enclave me in a dream state
You adorned, you amazed me
'Cause we were joined like a seam
And I hate we addressed everything on the table
Still wanna see your sweet face if I'm able
But our love has weathered
Together, we are untethered

Just be patient; it won’t hurt so much in a little while
But months go by, and I still look for your smile

Precious times that were yours and mine
Give way to ruthless change
In my solitude, I try to grasp
That what’s best for you isn’t me
It isn’t me

Naked
But it's not our bodies exposed
It's our souls
Continuously intertwining
Until it burns the exact same
